Ogier out, Latvala and Neuville in a battle for the leader position in WRC Rallye Deutschland 2013
Posted by WRC - 23/08/13 11:00AM - 0 Comments - WRC -

The start of the new day was bad for the rally leader Sebastien Ogier. The Frenchman broke his suspension after his mistake.
Ogier comments: I missed the braking point. I didn’t have it in my notes. I went into the vineyard a bit and hit something and damaged the front.
Sebastien Ogier finished the stage at 30th position with delay of 2:33.3 minutes by the stage winner Thierry Neuville. Latvala is the new rally leader after SS3 Mittelmosel 1 (22.95 km) followed by Neuville at +5.8.
In the next SS4 Moselland 1 (22.79 km) Thierry Neuville attack the leader of the rally Jari-Matti Latvala with his first stage win in Germany to close the gap with Latvala at 4.4 seconds. Dani Sordo with C. Barrion made a good stage with second position at +0.2 seconds although that Sordo is not happy with the car settings. The big looser is Sebastien Ogier who stopped in the stage and is out of the car. The comments for Ogier by Neuville: I think Ogier's suspension broke. We had to slow down a little bit, I was surprised to see the car in the middle of the road, particularly after a jump. I was a little bit in panic but it is ok, you can pass. I have to get use to the car, I don't feel comfortable yet.
And another comment by Latvala: Ogier stopped on the stage. I think he repaired broken wheel, but he had spun on the braking. He was out of the car and I don't think he will continue. I try, I have never been comfortable on this stage. A little bit understeer, I am not 100% satisfied. I need a little modification with the car.
In the last stage the service park before SE5 Grafschaft 1 (19.94 km) the Belgium star Thierry Neuville finished at the top followed by Jari-Matti Latvala at +2.0 seconds. In the starting rain some of the drivers comments:
Latvala: Started raining did not really affected us, couple of places was a little bit slippery. I have two soft tyres on the car.
Neuville: It was a good stage, on some places the tarmac was a little bit slippy, otherwise I feel quite comfortable.
Results after SS 5:
1. J. Latvala / M. Anttila (Volkswagen Polo R WRC) 59:12.6
2. T. Neuville / N. Gilsoul (Ford Fiesta RS WRC) +2.4

5. M. Ostberg / J. Andersson (Ford Fiesta RS WRC) +1:20.3

Ogier and Ingrassia attacks by the first stage in ADAC Rallye Deutschland 2013
Posted by WRC - 22/08/13 06:32PM - 0 Comments - WRC -

Sebastien Ogier / J. Ingrassia starts with attack by the first stage of ADAC Rallye Deutschland 2013. The French crew was the fastest in SS 1 Blankenheim with a distance of 23.54 km. The team-mate J. Latvala / M. Anttila is second in the stage at +4.6 seconds by the winner. The third position is the man with incredible progress Thierry Neuville with his co-driver Nicolas Gilsoul at +9.2 seconds. Dani Sordo and C. Del Barrion is fourth at +15.4 seconds.
In the dry stage with a perfect temperature of +22 C Evgeny Novikov and Ilka Minor at the beginning of the stage out of the road almost hit a group of trees but without serious damages could not back in the rally.
Neuville comments after SS1: The road is getting more and more dirty. I was understeering like hell all stage. I had no confidence at all and drove very badly.
Andersson: In the beginning, we almost hit Novikov, very slippy braking, we went off and came back on again. Quite pleased to be here as we have high water temperature from when we went over the starting ramp.
Ogier: Not so good, I am not so happy with the car. It is understeering a lot. We have to try to change something, it is difficult to drive the car like that.
In the second and last stage today Sauertal (14.10 km) again Ogier / Ingrassia are at the top. The second position in the stage is for Latvala / Anttila at +1.1 seconds.
Latvala in SS2: Second stage was clearly better for me , the grip was much better. On a couple of places I was braking too early but better than the first one. When the car is good then it is alright, but when it is not good, it is scary.
Sordo: I had problems in the hairpin, but nothing important. I am a little bit surprised how fast they are. I don't feel bad in the stage. The car was not so bad, in places a little bit dirty.

I just want to go out, relax and see how it’s going to be.”
The second best in the shakedown Dani Sordo also said: “It was a good start, yes, but for me it was more important that my times were good from the start, because as the session goes on they usually get better and better anyway. The first passes were the most important, and they were okay. I also had a really good feeling with the car. We made one or two set-up changes but we’re happy now and ready to go.”
The rally start today at 17:53 local time with SS 1 Blankenheim (23.54 km) and second stage today in the dark part of the evening SS2 Sauertal (14.11 km) at 19:58 local time.
