Like in 2014, the finish of the last timed sector of the AFRICA ECO RACE® was set up twenty kilometers from the town of Nouakchott and like last year smiles were present throughout all the competitors. This last leg was imagined by René METGE and his team, to give one last time as much fun as possible to all the finishers of the AFRICA ECO RACE®.

Africa Eco Race 2015 - A REAL MAURITANIAN STAGE

During the daily briefing last night, with the presence of the opening crew of the 2015 Africa Eco Race after having finished their mission, René METGE insisted on the fact that it will be very important to check the cape regularly and to keep it to avoid getting lost and losing precious time. When one has chosen his cape, in order to keep it, all that has to be done is to choose a spot on the horizon and head for it. This morning a strong sand wind was swiping the course of this 10th leg from Akjoujt and Akreidil, making the visibility nearly inexistence and thus making the navigation very difficult. Add to that a row of dunes particularly hard to cross in between CP1 and CP2 and the result is a very hard penultimate Mauritian stage. With all that in mind the different leaders managed to stay strong and there were not big changes in the provisional ranking.

Even if the day was difficult for a lot of people yesterday, only three vehicles did not make it to the bivouac in Azougui this morning, namely Noel ESSERS and his truck which is still stuck in the dunes as well as David FRETIGNE and Bernard MONTAZ who have their bikes on the balai truck. On the other hand, 11 participants arrived way to late to be at the start of the Azougui loop ( stage 8 ), so they spent the day reparing if needed or also resting to charge their batteries in order to get back in the race tomorrow. As a result, only 21 bikes and 28 auto/truck took the start at 8am this morning for one of the nicest stage of the 2015 AFRICA ECO RACE®.

The gods of offroad rallies decided the race could continue today. Even though the weather was not really on the participants side yesterday evening during the breifing, it finally changed this morning. As a result, the 433km long stage between Chami and Amsaga happened with a slight delay of an hour, enough time for the helicopters to arrive in Nouadibou. As planned and announced by René METGE, this Mauritanian stage was very selective and many participants will therefore arrive at the bivouac during the night.

Today’s stage was the longest one in kilometers as a special stage on the Africa Eco Race 2015. It was also one of the most complete with various African landscapes and of course, the Chegaga Erg which is always a delicate part of the stage in termes of Navigation and steering. Anyhow, even if there were some little problems and two bikers injured, everyone should arrive in Assa tonight.
